ERASURE/CLIENT, Munich Muffathalle, 31.03.2005 (pics coming soon!!)

"The Erasure Show", the ticket states. And one hell of a show it was! But more of it later.
First, the lovely ladies (plus Joe Wilson, formerly of the Sneaker Pimps, now of Trash Money fame) from CLIENT did the warm-up after another support band who were almost finished when we arrived.
CLIENT did a 8-song set of almost only singles, which was well-balanced between the first album "Client" and 2004's "City", the highlights being latest single "Pornography", "In It For The Money", "Radio" and "Rock N' Roll Machine" with its simple message of "Rock n' Roll is all I wanna do". The crowd were quite into it and sometimes there was even a smile on CLIENT B's ever so cool face.
The crowd reaction got even warmer for the main act, though. When the stage curtain fell and revealed the fairytale-like setting, Erasure's Andy Bell entered the stage wearing angel's wings, which made the audience go crazy. He was accompanied by two female background singers with butterfly wings, as well as mastermind Vince Clarke in the background. They presented songs from their new album "Nightbird" - including the stunning single "Breathe", as well as all the old favourites, like "A Little Respect", "Always", "Oh l'Amour", "Blue Savannah", or "Salsbury Hill" from the "Other People's Songs" record. Bell tried to run the whole show in German, which was very cute as he is far from perfect at it. But when he says "Ich weine nicht, ich habe nur Schwitze in den Augen", who wouldn't go "Awwwww"?
We were also treated with some costume changes, which might give Kylie, who was in town at the Olympiahalle the same night, a run for her money - first an Elvis-style catsuit with fake diamonds, but that wasn't the most daring yet, no. After the last change he came on wearing nothing but sparkly golden boots and knickers, which made a few jaws drop,to say the least. As did Andy Bell singing "Ave Maria" a cappella. Incredible. The highlight of the evening, though, was undisputeably Andy snogging Vince, and both obviously enjoying it. Well, after 20 years of working together, they finally HAD to realise they love each other really...The evening ended with one of their hugest hits, "Sometimes" and left the people in the Muffathalle begging for more.
So, this was "The Erasure Show". Worth every penny, to say the least. And, unlike Kylie's "Showgirl" gig only a few tube stations away, the "show" wouldn't have been necessary as Andy Bell's presence and strong voice could carry the whole performance without any problems.
